I. General Policy
This policy applies to all Rice University Faculty and Staff who are Eligible for Benefits
Leaves of absence with full pay are granted to all faculty and benefits-eligible staff drawn for jury duty service. For each workday the individual serves as a juror, the University pays customary wages or salary, provided the employee presents proof of service. Hours spent as a juror are not considered "hours worked" and, therefore, are not considered in the calculation of overtime. As paid hours they are counted for benefit time accumulation and holiday eligibility subject to usual limitations on benefit time accumulation.
Third shift employees are released from working the night shift prior to the day of jury service. First and second shift employees are released for the day or evening of the day of jury service. If not required to serve on a particular day after reporting for jury duty, a first or second shift employee is expected to come to work.
