I. General Policy
The Dean of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies is responsible for oversight of all graduate programs, including admissions, degree requirements, acceptable levels of academic performance, and enrollment management. Further details regarding these topics are published in the General Announcements and/or distributed to the departments. The University reserves the right to amend these details from time to time, and the current procedures and descriptions are available from the Office of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies.
Admission to Rice graduate programs is granted solely by the Dean of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (or by those specifically authorized by the Dean). The Dean will distribute to the school deans and department chairs the procedures and guidelines for admissions decisions.
The Dean of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies is responsible for all programs concerned with the financial support of graduate student, including those related to tuition awards, fellowships, and research and teaching assistantships. Offers of financial support to prospective graduate students may be made only by the Dean or by those specifically authorized by the Dean.
The standards of conduct set out in the Code of Student Conduct apply to all degree-seeking and non-degree-seeking students.
